About Twin City Locating
Twin City Locating is my owner-operated private utility locating business serving homeowners, contractors, and property owners across Southwest Washington. I started it to provide affordable straightforward, dependable locating services for people who need to know what is underground before digging, trenching, repairing utilities, or starting construction. It just seemed like this area needed a local expert that local communities didn't have to pay an arm and a leg for someone to drive to and from Portland or Seattle.
I have around 20 years of experience in utility locating and related field work, and I built Twin City Locating gradually after my twin boys were born. What started as a slow, intentional side business grew into a way for me to offer practical, honest private utility locating services to local customers who need real help on private property.
Today, I provide private utility locating services throughout Centralia, Chehalis, Olympia, Tumwater, Lacey, Aberdeen, Ocean Shores, Shelton, Longview, Kelso, and surrounding Southwest Washington communities.
A Small Local Business
Twin City Locating is not a large company, and it is not set up like a franchise or call-center service. When you reach out, you are talking directly with the person doing the work. That means better communication, fewer handoffs, and a clearer understanding of the job from the start.
I built this business to serve local homeowners and contractors who need private utility locating before excavation, trenching, fence installation, septic work, construction, utility repairs, and other digging on private property.
How It Started
After my twin boys were born, I started building Twin City Locating little by little. I wanted to create something of my own that was useful, dependable, and rooted in the kind of work I already knew well. To be able to serve the community outside of my typical 9-5 job. That is why I offer the services from electromagnetic locating to GPR services in the evenings, weekends, and every other Friday.
That is still how I run it now. I try to keep things straightforward, communicate clearly, and give customers a practical idea of what makes sense for their job before work begins.
Experience Behind the Work
With about 20 years of utility locating and related field experience, I understand the kinds of problems people run into when they are trying to figure out what is buried on private property. Some lines are easy to trace. Others are not. Some properties have older infrastructure, added structures, irrigation, private power, or buried lines that were never clearly documented.
That experience helps me decide what locating method may fit the job, whether that means electromagnetic locating, ground penetrating radar (GPR), sewer sonde and camera locating, magnetic locating, or a combination of methods.
What I Help Locate
Twin City Locating helps locate underground private utilities such as private water lines, sewer laterals, electrical feeds, communication lines, irrigation systems, and other buried utility paths on private property. The goal is to help customers get a better idea of what may be underground before digging starts.
Every job is a little different. The best approach depends on the property, the type of utility, the available access points, and how much certainty is needed before the project moves forward.
Who I Work With
Homeowners
A lot of homeowners reach out before putting in a fence, digging for drainage, repairing a utility line, planning septic work, trenching, or making other improvements around the property. Older homes, larger lots, and properties with shops, outbuildings, or irrigation often have private underground utilities that are not clearly mapped.
Contractors
Contractors usually need better information before excavation, grading, trenching, utility repair, site work, and construction. Knowing where private utilities may be located can help avoid damage, delays, and expensive surprises once the job starts.
Property Owners and Project-Based Customers
I also work with property owners, managers, and project-based customers who need a better understanding of underground private utilities before repairs, improvements, or construction move forward.
What Customers Can Expect
Direct Communication
Because I run the business myself, customers are speaking directly with the person handling the job. That makes it easier to talk through the property, the project, and what type of locating may make sense.
Straightforward Service
I try to keep things simple and clear. You should be able to explain the job, get a realistic idea of what may be needed, and know what information helps before scheduling.

Why Private Utility Locating Matters
A lot of people assume calling 811 covers every buried line on a property. In many cases, it does not. Public utility locating usually covers public utilities, while private utilities on private property may still need a separate locate.
