Service Description

Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) is a non-invasive locating method used to detect non-metal underground utilities and subsurface features that cannot be traced using traditional electromagnetic locating. Twin City Locating provides professional GPR utility locating services throughout Southwest Washington for projects where utility locations are unknown or undocumented. GPR works by transmitting radar signals into the ground and analyzing reflected responses to identify changes in subsurface materials in real time. This allows utilities such as plastic water lines, PVC sewer laterals, irrigation systems, and other non-metal utilities to be identified without tracer wire or conductivity. This service is commonly requested when utilities are not marked through 811, when previous locating attempts were inconclusive, or prior to excavation, trenching, concrete cutting, or construction activities where minimizing risk is critical. While GPR is a powerful tool, its effectiveness can vary depending on soil conditions such as clay content, moisture, and aggregate. In some cases, GPR is most effective when combined with other locating methods to provide the most complete understanding of underground conditions.
